The place name glyphs on pages 1 and 2 of the Matrícula, and folios 17 (verso) 18 (recto) of the Codex Mendoza include both tributary towns and garrison towns. Barlow discusses them together as Province 37. The maps and table that follow are all from Barlow (1949).

Location Map. Province 37 is shown in green.

Barlow's map of the province. The garrison towns are obviously not included on this map. Province 37, "the heart of the Empire," as Barlow put it, was located in the area that is now the Distrito Federal and the Estado de Mexico.
