Rental Vehicle Information

The university has a formal rental contract with Enterprise Rentals (510-705-8989), located at the corner of Oxford and University, near the campus west gate. All Enterprise rental contracts have a low minimum driver age requirement of 18 years and include a Loss Damage Waiver (Full Comp & Collision) and liability insurance rated at $1,000,000 per accident. (Drivers under 21 years of age must already have full transferrable Comp & Collision coverage of their own).

The department may issue renters a rental card that bills directly to the department. This card is issued for pre-approved department funded uses only. Renters must turn in all receipts that are to be charged to the department. Renters are responsible for the vehicles they rent. Please print out the document referenced below as a response guide for vehicle accidents and breakdowns.

Refer to Berkeley’s travel web site to find information on UC contracts with other rental agencies in the area, including driver’s age and insurance requirements.

The department has it’s own insurance requirements for department funded rental of vehicles not covered by a UC corporate contract. The department requires that the rental contract include liability coverage of at least 100/300/25. Vehicles carrying a large passenger load (5 or more) must carry the maximum coverage offered by the rental agency.

Note: The University is not required to reimburse the cost of insurance for vehicles rented outside of a UC corporate contract. The renter should take this personal cost into account when choosing a rental vehicle. All costs for damages incurred under an outside contract will be acquired from the renter's insurance (either their personal insurance or that purchased from the rental agency). Costs that extend beyond the parameters of the renter's insurance will be covered by the university (Ref: BUS-75).
