The class has three goals. The first is to introduce incoming graduate students to the tremendous range of geographical inquiry and some of the best contemporary work in the field. A second goal is to help students see, think, and write geographically–that is, to make links across space, differentiate places, and connect humans to the earth — in effect, learning how to interpret our physical and human landscapes. A third goal is to give students a sound basis upon which to judge arguments: to see how theory and evidence are used and misused. Sequence begins in the Fall.
