The entire month of July 1997 was spent in Berkeley getting the atlas ready for publication. Funds ran out again. The Lannan Foundation provided crucial funding to keep the work moving ahead to completion. Work days extended into work nights. Three cartographers sat at three computers working on the atlas while listening to rock and roll, country, jazz, reggae, and Punta funk (Garifuna music from Belize). The result is what you hold before you now. The Maya of southern Belize offer it to you for your enlightenment and enjoyment. |
