I study cities and the social formations that make them; I'm particularly interested in the ways that race, gender and class make communities and shape political economies. My dissertation research is on redevelopment in San Francisco's southeast neighborhoods.

Personal interests

When I'm not reading or writing, I can usually be found walking or biking San Francisco's many hills, playing or listening to music, or rolling out a mat somewhere for yet another downward-facing dog.

I'm on the board of the San Francisco Coalition on Homelessness, which publishes  The Street Sheet.
