William Fei, Geograpahy undergraduate, has won an honorable mention from the Cartography and Geographic Information Society for his interactive map website, "A Celebration and Archive of San Pablo Avenue." Fei's site was created for his final project in Lecturer Joel Wanek's GEOG 189 course, Visual Geography. In this practice-based course, students shot and edited photographic works that document and interpret the landscape and people along San Pablo Avenue from Oakland to Hercules, CA. Through the process of making photographs, analyzing them, editing them into a body of work, and critiquing them along the way, the course engages with questions of how photography can help students understand the people we encounter and the spaces we move through everyday.
