Congrats to Mia Albano, Geography Senior, on being chosen for the Stronach Baccalaureate Prize! Mia's research project, "They Only Remember Us at the End of the Month:” Experiences of Former Overseas Filipino Workers on Scales from the Intimate and Household to National and Global, will use interviews, ethnographic, and archival data to take a closer look at the lives of people being affected by the Philippine state's longstanding role of a human labor broker, overseeing the deployment of its citizens to foreign countries and perpetuating the underdevelopment of its own nation. Resulting in a film, her project seeks to capture and understand how former and current overseas Filipino workers perceive themselves within contexts ranging from the individual and household all the way to the transnational and global.
The Stronach Baccalaureate Prize commemorates Judith Lee Stronach's enduring legacy of giving and celebrates her commitment to lifelong intellectual and creative growth. Recipients are awarded up to $25,000 for projects that serve the public good and heighten awareness of issues of social consciousness.
Congrats, Mia!
