"The hour has come for the UC to listen to its students, and to use its massive capacity to invest and plan to help solve the housing crisis, rather than prolong it."
Desiree Fields, Geography Professor, has co-written an essay for the Law and Political Economy (LPE) Project titled, "When the Public University is the Corporate Landlord." The short essay discusses the UC’s recent investments with the Blackstone real estate investment trust, explaining how this partnership directly contributes to and profits from housing scarcity and tenant disempowerment, betraying its public mission. Congrats, Desiree!
