We are proud to share that Geography senior Yuqi Tian has been profiled by UC Berkeley’s College of Letters & Science for her exceptional academic achievements and dedication to accessibility advocacy.
Since arriving from Inner Mongolia in 2021, Yuqi has made a significant impact on campus. She is graduating this semester with three bachelor's degrees in Geography, Comparative Literature, and Italian Studies, along with a minor in Gender and Women's Studies and a certificate in New Media. Completing 190 units—often taking 25 units per semester—she will graduate with a 3.991 GPA.
Yuqi's commitment to inclusivity is evident in her research. As a wheelchair user, she focused her Geography honors thesis on disability access in urban greenspaces, examining Berkeley's Ohlone Park and its connections to the Free Speech Movement. Her work combines archival research with field studies to envision more inclusive public spaces.
Beyond academics, Yuqi has been an active member of the campus community. She served as co-president of the Berkeley United Geographers (BUGs), participated in the Dean's Leadership Team in the Division of Arts & Humanities, and was involved in several research programs, including SURF, URAP, and the Berkeley Center for New Media.
Yuqi will continue her academic journey at UC Berkeley as a Ph.D. student in Italian Studies starting this fall.
